Silicone Oil Removal - Made Easy!

4: 39, Anina Abraham, MD

Two-port 23 gauge passive silicone oil removal in phakic and pseudophakic eyes. The procedure takes about 7 - 10 minutes and does not require active aspiration of oil or placement of sutures. On the basis of Pascal's law, when one port is fitted with the infusion cannula and another port is kept open, all silicone oil comes out from the eye at a constant rate. A cotton tipped applicator is used to tilt the globe. An endoilluminator may be used at the end of the procedure to examine the retina.
