Posterior Hyaloid Removal in Diabetic Vitrectomy
1: 52, Anina Abraham, MD
A taut posterior hyaloid causing traction over the macula in diabetic retinopathy, may be removed by carefully recognizing it nasal to the disc, using a high magnification direct macula lens. The taut posterior hyaloid is clasped over the macula, using a forceps, nasal to the disc. Gentle traction is applied anteroposteriorly and the posterior hyaloid is pulled away from the retina. This is then removed with the cutter.
